I understand what someone goes through when depression and anxiety overcome you. I understand how hard it is to begin to understand and accept what it is you are going through. I know the struggle of helping yourself, finding help, searching for the right therapist, trying to pay for therapy and all the other stresses that come along with depression and anxiety. You feel alone, you feel like dying, you feel like giving up and above all you can’t understand why. Why is this happening to me? Why can’t I just be strong and get up and get over it? Why is it a warm sunny day, yet all I see is darkness?
How do you win this war raging inside you?
I won the war, and what worked for me may not work for everyone going through the same struggle, but what I do know is the pain and agony one goes through. I can put myself in their shoes and know what it is that person wants when they are depressed or anxious.
While you’re depressed or feeling anxious, you want to come out of that feeling, but you secretly enjoy feeling sorry for yourself. There is a weird comfort that comes from feeling sorry for yourself. But, there is a split second of strength, and in that split second you have the opportunity to do something about it. And when you make the decision to help yourself and to start winning the war, you want help instantaneously. Something, anything to get you started!
When I came to this moment, I decided to search for a therapist. The search was difficult and it only put more stress on me. I didn’t know who would be the right therapist for me. Some had great reviews, but would I feel the same? Do I really have the time and money to spend on someone who may not be right for me?
The next best thing was to try and help myself. Self-help.
So I did what any normal millennial does. I went to YouTube. I found a YouTube page that belonged to a therapist with tons of information on depression and anxiety.
The moment that I decided to change my life and help myself out, I needed something right away. I needed instant help so that I could keep the motivation of helping myself and overcoming this depression and anxiety I’ve been struggling with. That therapist on YouTube saved my life.
Everyone is different, but I do understand what some people may be going through and I’ve dedicated myself to building a product to help all those in need.
It has taken me 34 years, but I am finally in alignment with my purpose and that purpose is helping others. I choose mental health because it has been a major part of my life and this is what I want to help others with.
sanoMind is a mental health wellness app that connects people to audio content created by licensed mental health professionals. The app just launched January 17, 2018, and we are just getting started! We are always looking for more licensed mental health professionals to feature and contribute audio content.
As of 2015 many countries around the world have less than one mental health professional for every 100,000 people. There is a shortage. We need alternative ways to reach people in need.
sanoMind hopes to be one of those alternatives.
Mental health is not only about people that suffer from many different issues, mental health is for everyone. Your brain should be treated like a muscle, exercise it just like you would any other muscle in your body.
