Humans see physical appearance as one of the most important things in their life. Looking good makes us feel good. There’s something about a fresh haircut that makes me feel great! But what happens when we don’t take care of some basic hygiene?
If you don’t brush your teeth regularly, bacteria can build up on your teeth. Brushing your teeth regularly helps remove bacteria and prevent it from forming. Bacteria can cause tooth decay aka cavities and a gum disease is known as gingivitis.
If you want a role in the next Pirates of the Caribbean, then, by all means, don’t brush your teeth.
Why do we bathe? To smell great?!
The main reason for bathing is personal hygiene. We wash away dead skin cells, dirt, and it’s a preventative measure to reduce the spread of disease. It also reduces body odors and makes us smell fresh and clean!
Would you not shower for days?
What may happen if you don’t shower for more than two days?
- You might catch a cold from the bad bacteria that is not washed off your body
- You might break out from oily skin
- Your hair might get greasy
- Your skin might dry up
- You might release a bad odor
I’m sure there are many other things that might happen, but you get the point.
So, have a bath, it’s good for everyone.
What about haircuts? What happens if we don’t get regular haircuts? Split ends? I don’t think there are any negative health effects, but mentally we get haircuts to look good and feel good. I am obsessed with my hair and getting a haircut is like self-care for me. I love sitting on the chair, relaxing for 30 minutes, getting a hot towel on my face and come out looking sharper than I looked 30 minutes ago. See example below, LOL
That picture was taken after a haircut, shower and brushing of my teeth! Hahaha.
What else do humans obsess over?
- Teeth Whitening
- Plastic Surgery
I can go on and on, but you get my drift. We are SO focused on how we look. And this is OK, but why aren’t we obsessed with our mental wellbeing as much as we are with our physical appearance? Your brain is the boss of you! It runs the show and controls just about everything you do. Even while you’re asleep it’s working and controlling everything. Isn’t that amazing? While you’re sleeping, you have a partner who is taking care of your body so that you can rest.
I don’t know about you, but I am fascinated by the brain. Why don’t we take care of it as well as we take care of our teeth? We brush our teeth twice a day (at least some of us do, lol) but we don’t check into our mental health at least once a day.
Everything starts with your brain, if your mind is sharp, everything else will fall into place.
These are just my thoughts and opinions. I am not a licensed mental health professional or any type of science professional. : )
